Situated on the hillside above the small community of Apple Bay on the north-west coast of Tortola, this recently completed villa offers some truly spectacular ocean views, from Cane Garden Bay in the east, all the way to St Thomas and the mile-long beach at Long Bay to the west. For the same reason it is ideally positioned for viewing the island's famous sunsets, and it also makes the most of the cooling breeze. (There are ceiling fans throughout for additional comfort during particularly hot weather.) Built over three floors, the property is designed to offer all the relaxed, easy-going comforts of casual living. It has two bedrooms - one king and one queen - and an additional queen-size futon to one side of the main living area. Between them these can accommodate up to six guests in spacious surroundings. The main living and dining area - a light and airy room incorporating a well-equipped kitchen to the rear - is located on the upper level of the house, capitalising on the panoramic, 270-degree views. On one side of this room is the futon that can be used either to expand the living area, or else as a bedroom for the fifth and sixth guests. Floor-to-ceiling drapes provide privacy when it's utilised for this purpose. To the front of the living area, bi-fold French doors open to a wraparound verandah and stunning ocean views beyond. A full bathroom is conveniently located to the rear of the living room. A queen bedroom with a separate full bathroom is located on the middle floor, and offers a private covered wraparound verandah, again with ocean views. Also on this level is a large, open garage, and a laundry room with separate washer and dryer. The king bedroom, situated on the lower level, has screened windows opening to views of Apple Bay and Jost van Dyke beyond. This room also has a window overlooking the pool, and at night this gives it a relaxing turquoise glow when the pool lights are switched on. A further full bathroom is located on the other side of the hallway from this bedroom. There are useful outside showers, too - one on the lower floor, one on the top - allowing guests to rinse off after returning from the beach. Outside, the villa is surrounded by flat, grassed areas, with a number of paths to explore between the granite boulders on the hill directly below the house. To the side of the villa is a private pool with a classic infinity edge. A generous car-parking area, adjacent to the open garage, is to the rear of the property. (A four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended for guests staying at Tortola Adventure.) Apple Bay, widely known as one of Tortola's best surfing beaches when there is a northerly swell, has a smallish inn, a couple of good restaurants, and an art gallery. Other beaches are within a 10- to 20-minute drive, and Soper's Hole and West End, offering restaurants, shops and groceries, are less than 10 minutes away over the hill.
